Alamogordo Organizing and Storing Holiday Decorations Tips

Homeowners across America are combing through boxes and pulling out decorations. But before you know it, the holidays will be over and it’ll be time to put things away. Yes, we’re already thinking about life after the holidays. So use these tips to keep your holiday decorations organized, protected in your Alamogordo new home and ready for next year.

Once you’re decorations are down but before you start packing them up, go through your décor and take inventory. Group decorations used together to ensure they stay together. After all, your wreath should be in the same spot as your wreath hanger, turkey and pilgrims shouldn’t be boxed in with Santa Clause and your ornaments aren’t lost and tangled up in garland. Purge anything broken, worn or decorations you don’t want and keep a tally of items you’ll need to replace.

Identify a storage zone in your new home to stock décor. This could be a storage closet, extra bedroom or section of your garage. Your decorations will be safe and out of the way until it’s time for them to make a reprisal. Use original packaging to repack decorations. Also take a look around your Alamogordo home to see what can be used. Garment bags stow leftover wrapping paper well and won’t take up a lot of room in a closet or shelf. Shoeboxes are perfect for storing ribbons, tags and holiday tissue paper. Additionally, use hangers to wrap and keep holiday lights untangled, egg cartons for small ornaments and bubble wrap to protect flat hanging decorations, like snowflakes. Candles should be placed in closed containers and kept in a cool area to extend their candle life. Throw in fabric softener sheets with holiday items made from fabric to help deter mildew and moths. Special wreath containers and artificial tree bags are also available for purchase at local retailers. Clear plastic containers are effective for identifying contents and storing holiday décor. Or select colored containers to represent the various holidays. Make sure to face boxes and storage containers forward and use labels to classify the contents.

Take the time now to organize, pack and store your holiday decorations correctly. Though this may initially seem like a hassle, your decorations will be secure and you’ll have more time to decorate your new home in Alamogordo.
