Closet Organization Tips

Are you ready to jump on the de-cluttering bandwagon? Maybe you had a new year’s resolution of cleaning out your closet, or maybe you are just tired of not being able to find your favorite sweater or blouse because its hidden behind your summer dress and jeans from 1999 that you can’t bear to get rid of. Either way, we have the tips you need to get your closet neat and organized!

Plan out your closet

Don’t just hang your clothes anywhere there’s space! Strategically think about the way you want your closet to look and how you hang your clothes. Incorporating a system of hanging like clothes together (shirts with shirts and pants with pants, etc.), or color coding your closet can make it easier to find what you are looking for. Keep your less used items toward the back or sides of the closet, and your go to outfits front and center! French Brothers new homes in Artesia, NM, all have spacious closets so you can keep your lucky blue jeans, and still have room for the things you use every day.

Use Organization Tools

Hooks are your new BFF! Use regular hooks for things like bags and belts, and specialty hooks for things like scarves and ties. If you don’t have a lot of wall space, you can mount hooks on the inside of your closet door. Hanging organizers come in all shapes and sizes, and are perfect for shoes or small items. You can even get tiered hangers that hold multiple shirts or pairs of slacks, but only take up the space of one hanger! Jewelry hooks are small and can keep all of your necklaces from tangling. If you have space, a wall mounted mirror can really help you pick the best outfit on a rushed morning.

Organize Your Closet Floor

The floor in your closet can quickly become a mountain of fallen clothes, dirty laundry, and discarded shoes. Keep it all clean by organizing the floor. Use a laundry hamper to keep your dirty clothes all together and out of sight. If you have room, go for a dual compartment hamper to keep your lights and darks separated. Bonus tip: Keep a bottle of laundry spray right near the hamper and treat your stains right away! It will save you loads of time come laundry day.

Shoes can be organized in cubby shelves, or open-air shoe racks. Stuff tall boots with newspaper to help them keep their shape. You’ll never forget about your favorite pair of shoes when you can easily see them every morning!

Add a Dresser to Your Closet

If you have a walk-in closet, like many of the new homes in Artesia, NM, that French Brothers builds, you might even have room enough to add a dresser into your closet! This can free up space in your bedroom for a loveseat or make-up vanity, and can help you stay organized by keeping all of your clothes together. Take the organization up another notch by using dividers in your drawers to keep small items, like socks, from becoming a jumbled mess. Small items that you can’t seem to find a place for can go in the top drawer, and less used items, like thick winter socks or special occasion wear, can go in the bottom drawer.

Now that you have a goal worthy closet, and your mornings are a breeze, get out there and enjoy all that extra time you’ve got! And if your closet still isn’t quite big enough, its probably time to build a new home with French Brothers!
