The Doña Ana Arts Council is Offering Summer Youth Programs in Las Cruces
Summer is right around the corner, and so is summer break! Do you have plans for your kids this summer? Have you considered enrolling them in youth programs? Summer programs are great mind-stimulating programs that can keep your kids active and engaged.
The Doña Ana Arts Council is back with their summer youth programs in 2017. These three separate summer youth programs are perfect for homes in Las Cruces NM students to attend. The first is the Career Art Path (CAP). CAP is a program to immerse rising fifth through eighth graders into visual arts. CAP will be held at Alma d’Arte Charter High School (402 W Court Avenue) in Las Cruces from June 12-23, 2017. Tuition is a total of $100 for the entire two-week program. However, Marian and Jordon Wolle, the Arts Council and program founders, will donate financial support to students who are interested in the visual arts but cannot pay the $100 tuition in full.
Opera Storytellers of Las Cruces will go from June 19-24, 2017. Open to rising third through eighth graders, 25 to 30 students will incorporate components of libretto writing, music composition, opera, and theatrical staging to create and present their own musical drama based on the Hero’s Journey at the Rio Grande Theatre. Opera Storytellers of Las Cruces is presented by the Doña Ana Arts Council and is in collaboration with The Santa Fe Opera. The cost is $100 per student and partial scholarships are also available.
The third youth program is the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT). MCT will be June 26-30, 2017 at the Rio Grande Theatre (211 N. Main Street) in Las Cruces. MCT aims to bring valuable theatre experiences to the youth. Two-hour tryouts for Aladdin will be held on Monday, June 26th beginning at 10 a.m. at the Rio Grande Theatre. This is open for students entering first through 12th grades and tuition is $60. Partial scholarships are available for those who qualify.
