For the Love of Art Month

Love is in the air. And we’re not just talking about Valentine’s Day. The City of Las Cruces has officially dedicated February is officially dedicated as For the Love of Art (FLOA) Month. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this “art felt” event presented by the ArtForms Artists Association of New Mexico. Activities during this month include a member art show, studio tours, and art events happening all around the town. These are several of the vibrant art events you and your new homes in Las Cruces NM neighbors don’t want to miss!

As part of the ArtForms and Las Cruces Arts Association Members Show, there will be:

  • Saturday, February 10th – Reception at Art Obscura (3206 Harrelson) beginning at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, February 16th – Reception at The Big Picture (2001 E. Lohman, Suite 109) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Studio Tours give attendees an opportunity to see where art is made and a chance to talk to the artists who create it. Click here for a full rundown of this year’s tours.

Dance, music and spoken word events:

  • The Rio Trio Saxophone Trio – On February 10 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Branigan Cultural Center (501 N. Main)
  • The Mesilla Valley Dance Collective – They will perform The Scarab Thief at the Black Box Theatre on February 16th and 17th at 8 p.m.

Throughout the month these events will also be taking place:

  • MAS Art – Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Rio Grande Theatre Gallery – Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the first two weeks in February (contingent upon lobby construction)
  • Mesquite Art Gallery – Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tombaugh Gallery – Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Art Obscura – Thursday through Saturday from 10am–7pm and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Big Picture – Monday through Friday starting at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
