The Annual Otero County Fair and Rodeo

If you live in one of our homes in Alamogordo, NM, then you probably know that September is one of the most exciting times to live here.
That’s because the much-anticipated annual Otero County Fair & Rodeo is returning to the Otero County Fairgrounds (401 Fairgrounds Road) in Alamogordo from Thursday, September 18th to Sunday, September 21st, 2025.
Gate admission to the fair is absolutely free of charge, allowing everyone to join in the fun. While entry is free, please remember that food, rides, and other attractions will have additional costs. This year’s fair and rodeo promise an array of exciting features, including the beloved carnival, an entertaining fair parade and the annual rodeo. Don’t miss the Queen’s Pageant and the diverse indoor and outdoor exhibits showcasing local arts and crafts, agriculture, flowers, livestock, produce and veggies. Plus, enjoy the new pavilion and everyone’s favorite, the Ferris Wheel—a must-ride attraction!

OPEN RODEO
Celebrate our 85th Otero County Rodeo with the Baca Rodeo Company as our stock contractor, featuring the legendary Scooter Smith— Rodeo Clown Extraordinaire —and amazing contestants competing in events from rough stock to timed events. Enjoy super-fast barrel racers, calf tie-downs, steer roping, the artistry of bronc riding and the thrills of bull riding in this action-packed spectacle.

Burning of the Bull
Mark your calendars for October 16th, when the Burning of the Bull lights up Alamogordo with one of the most unforgettable nights of the season. This beloved one-day event brings the community together to symbolically cast off the year’s worries in a powerful, fiery display. Enjoy fireworks, folkloric dancers, live music, food and craft vendors, and fun for the whole family, including a beach ball toss and festive piñatas. The night culminates in the dramatic burning of the bull, creating a unique and meaningful tradition you’ll look forward to every fall.
