We all know moving is a process. And once you’re all moved in you’re still left with having to unpack. But don’t let the overwhelming task of unpacking overshadow the joy of moving into your dream home. Follow these useful tips to unpack efficiently and get settled into your new home in Alamogordo faster.

The last thing any homeowner wants is to be inundated with moving and having to figure out a room’s layout at the same time. Plan each room out before unpacking so you know how you’d like to set things up.  Also, decide on what method will help you unpack better. Will using the living room or garage as a staging area help or do you prefer placing items in their appropriate rooms?

When it comes to unpacking, start with the rooms you plan on using every day so the move doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day living as much. Set up the beds and linens, hang the shower curtains, fill up medicine cabinets and set aside towels and toiletries. You’ll be able to freshen up, shower, relax during breaks and get some rest after a long day or a couple of days of unpacking. We suggest packing an overnight bag with several days’ worth of clothes to help with your move as well. If you work from home, you’ll want to set up the home office in this stage so you can work immediately. Once you’ve dealt with the bare necessities proceed to the other rooms in your house.

Next, work on the kitchen. Hook up appliances, put away cutlery, dishes, pots and pans. Make sure these items are easily accessible and nearest to where they’ll be used the most. This way you don’t have to rely on ordering out and can enjoy a home-cooked meal in your new house if you’d like. Then make your way to the living room to set up the sofa and coffee table and dining quarters to get your dining room table situated.

Finally, focus on the manageable tasks. This includes setting up the media center, organizing bookshelves, unpacking home décor and accessories and getting your clothes out of suitcases and boxes and into closets and dresser drawers. By divvying up these smaller projects you won’t feel as overwhelmed and can complete a project before starting on the next task. Don’t forget to flatten out boxes as they’re emptied out. This will help keep you organized and hopefully help you avoid misplacing or losing something in the process.

Remember, in order to unpack efficiently you must pack effectively. Don’t get overwhelmed with the process and don’t be afraid to enlist the help of friends and family. Soon enough you’ll be welcomed into the community by your new neighbors and enjoying your Alamogordo new home.
