Why Alamogordo May Be A Perfect Place to Live in New Mexico

New Mexico is a lot more than just a place where the award-winning show Breaking Bad took place. Known as the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico is an excellent state for individuals and families to settle in.

Why Live in Alamogordo?

Alamogordo is a friendly, small and quiet military town situated in south-central New Mexico. It boasts warm days, cool nights and mild winter temperatures that range from the 50s to 60s, making it an ideal place to live all year round. With so many things to do and events to attend, Alamogordo is definitely a city to consider for your next move.

Experience the Great Outdoors New Mexico Style

When it comes to outdoor activities, Alamogordo has you covered in spades! Located only 15 minutes away, White Sands National Park is an incredible place that allows visitors to sled down its sand dunes, take scenic hikes and bike rides, and enjoy a picnic with the whole family. On top of that, they even host an annual hot air balloon festival, which is put on by the Alamogordo Center of Commerce. The colorful balloons against the pristine white sand make for an amazing experience.

You’ll also want to check out Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, which like White Sands, offers some of the same incredible activities for you to participate in. If you appreciate rock carvings, check out the Three Rivers Petroglyphs. Yes, it is about 40 minutes from Alamogordo, but it is worth the trip. Are you looking to beat the New Mexico heat? Cloudcroft is about 20 minutes from Alamogordo and up in the mountains, which means you’ll stay cool at all times there. This incredible destination allows you to hike, camp, shop and dine there. There are plenty of things to do near Alamogordo for outdoor enthusiasts.

Fun For The Whole Family

If you’re moving to Alamogordo with your family, you will be satisfied with what you can do with them here! The New Mexico Museum of Space History is an out-of-this-world experience that will leave your family over the moon thanks to its world-class planetarium, theater and exciting outdoor aerospace exhibit.

Get your safari on by visiting the Alameda Park Zoo. Founded in 1898, it’s home to many animals and provides visitors of all ages with a fun and educational experience. If you’re into trains, especially of the toy variety, then chug along to the Toy Train Depot. Many toy train enthusiasts consider it a must-see place with its spectacular collection of model trains and interactive exhibits.

If you want to go back in time, you should check out the Tularosa Basin Museum of History, home to artifacts and stories from the dawn of time to the city’s role in the atomic ages. Are you looking for something to do around the holiday season? Then you and your family can check out the annual Christmas on Main Street festival every December.

You must go to the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts for live performances featuring local and national shows, music and plays. To get a sense of the local agricultural scene, head down during the fall to the Otero County Fair and Rodeo, which features a range of events and activities for the whole family.

And while the town is small, Alamogordo does offer a great shopping scene with the White Sands Mall that features Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, Ross, Harbor Freight and more.

Get a Taste of Alamogordo

The best way to capture a person’s heart is through food, and let’s say Alamogordo has many people coming back for more. If you fancy yourself as a wine enthusiast, you’ll appreciate the Heart of the Desert Pistachios and Wine. This wine wonderland offers wine tastings, orchard and farm tours and a gift shop for all your wine-drinking needs. Another local orchard and vineyard you should check out is McGinns Pistachioland. They have two locations, one featuring a gigantic pistachio and the other with a larger-than-life Alamogordo sign.

If you’re searching for a fine dining experience, Lescombes Winery and Bistro is the place to be. Not only do they offer an assortment of fine wines to choose from, thanks to their vineyard, but their menu also features products exclusive to New Mexico.

Check out the Rocket City Family Fun Center for a night of food with a side of an action-packed and fun-filled night out with family or friends. Not only does this place feature a fantastic restaurant/bar, but it also boasts a bowling alley and laser tag arena! If you’re looking to catch a flick, you can walk across the complex to find a local movie theater. Best of all, all this fun is within walking distance away from Mesa Village, a French Brothers community.
